SA COURT OPERATIONS DURING LOCKDOWN The South African Courts, both High Courts and Magistrate’s Courts will have limited operations during the South African Lockdown period. This means that civil cases will be rescheduled for after the lockdown period. Courts will effectively be closed except for certain matters including urgent matters, matters in which children are affected or domestic violence cases. The urgency of the civil matter will be assessed by the magistrate or judge and if the matter is not urgent or has no valid reason of urgency, the party claiming the urgency will be liable for punitive costs.
